Silver Oak Farm will be hosting a clinic with Jennie Loriston-Clarke January 13-16, 2011. Jennie has represented Great Britain four times at the Olympics, five if the 1980 Alternate Olympic is counted, is an I level judge, having previously judged the **** at Burghley, a Bronze Medalist at the 1978 World Championships at Goodwood, and the Chairman of British Dressage. She is a prolific author and has written many books on the training of horses. Private lessons in dressage or jumping are available. Jennie is a great teacher at any level and has a enthusiastic, positive approach. Lessons are $165 per session. Please email us at pcdsilveroak@msn.com if interested.

Directions to the farm: From I-75 take the 399 exit at 441. Go West (will be right from both the northbound and southbound exits). You will go up a hill, and on your right you will see Sante Fe High School. At the top of that hill, about 1/4 of a mile from I-75, there is a traffic light at 235A. Turn left, South, and go 1 1/2 mile to NW 138th Ave. Turn right and go 1 mile. The road will change from asphalt to dirt, after that, it is the second mailbox on the left. The dressage ring and mirrors are right by the road and easy to see.

Silver Oak Farm was established in 1990 and moved to its present location in Alachua, Florida in 1993. We provide training and boarding services and specialize in eventing and dressage. The farm is convenient to Gainesville and the University of Florida. Owner/Manager Patricia Deasy is a former Area III Leading Rider and an USEA ICP Certified Instructor. In June 1993, she was ranked 37rd in the nation on the USEA Rider of the Year leaderboard. With 20 years experience actively competing and training up to Intermediate level in Eventing and 3rd level in Dressage, she has trained horses and riders that have won 17 USEA Area III Championships and 3 USEF national championships. She takes a kind supportive approach with an emphasis on correct flatwork and confident, safe cross country riding.

Patricia works regularly with her mentor, Alex Chterba, former coach of the USSR's Olympic Dressage Team and four-time National Show Jumping Champion of the USSR. She has ridden in clinics with Lucinda Green regularly since 1992. The farm also regularly hosts clinics with Jennie Loriston‐Clarke, Chairman of British Dressage and “I” level judge, who has represented Great Britain at the Olympics five times. In 1978 Jennie was the Bronze Medalist at the World Championships at Goodwood.

Horses

Icon came to Silver Oak Farm in 1990. In 1991 he began his eventing career and he and Patricia were Area III Senior and High Point Novice Champions and won the Area III Novice Championship Competition. In 1993 they were Area III Senior and High Point Preliminary Champions. He qualified for the DeBroke National Preliminary Championships in 1993 and 1994. During those three and a half years of intense competition, he completed more than 30 horse trials and never had a cross country jumping fault. Sold to Tara Kristle in 1994, he went on to be a success in the A circuit show ring. He has returned to Silver Oak and is in semi-retirement. He occasionally gives dressage lessons and is still sound at the age of 27.
Cavalier was at Silver Oak for 7 years. He had his start in Eventing here, competing at Beginner Novice at the age of four. He later qualified for two DeBroke National Preliminary Championships and reached Intermediate by the age of 7. After competing at Intermediate from 1995 to 97, he was sold to Patte and Katie Clement. He went on to represent Area III at two NAYRC Championships and also completed many other CCI's at the One and Two Star level with both Katie and Patte. He is now retired on their NoneSuch Farm in Killen, Alabama.
Nash came to Silver Oak after racing as a three year old. He began Eventing in 1994 and reached Preliminary level in 1996. He competed in over 18 horse trials at Preliminary and Intermediate level without ever having a cross country jumping penalty. In 1998 he completed the CCI* at Camino Real. The Chief Vet remarked that he was one of the fittest horses in the competition.
Perch began his Eventing career at Silver Oak Farm. Reaching Preliminary level in 2002. He was successful at Novice with a win at Canterbury and at Training a 2nd place finish at Basingstoke. In three years of competition he only placed out of the ribbons once.
Welton Valentino, aka Andy, came to the farm from Limbury Stud in Hartpury, England. He was bred by Sam and Linda Barr, breeders of some of Eventings most famous horses including Welton Envoy, Welton Houdini, Welton Apollo, Welton Greylag and Welton Romance. Purchased as a green, uncompeted 4 year old, he qualified for his first CIC in 2005. He is now pursuing a career in dressage where we have hopes of his reaching FEI level in that discipline as well. Andy is a lovely horse with a kind and happy personality.
Brendon Hill Shareholder, aka Benny, was bred by Diana Scott at Brendon Hill Stud in Somerset, England. Diana stood the famous stallion Ben Faerie, the sire of Ginny Leng's Priceless and Night Cap. He is also closely related to Primore's Pride, Walk on Star, Sir Toby and Doubtless William. Benny was purchased as a two year old and brought to the US and began his training early in his 3 year old year. He has successfully competed at Training Level in eventing and at 2nd level at USDF Dressage shows.

Dazzling Affaere is a young mare we are very excited about. By Catherston Dazzler, she is closely related to some very famous horses notably Summer Song, Midnight Dazzler, Dazzling Effects, Hyde Park Corner, Broadstone Harvest Moon, Headly Brittania, Henry Tankerville, Faerie Dazzler and Faerie Diadem. She is showing great promise.

Faerly Certain is a 6 year old mare by It's Without Doubt out of Faerie Diadem. "Bea" was bred at Brendon Hill Stud and her mother was a successful *** horse formerly competed by William Fox Pitt. Her mother is a half sister to the great horse "Priceless" competed by Ginny Leng, who won Burghley, Badminton, the World Championships at Gawler and a Bronze medal at the Los Angeles Olympic Games. She is a lovely mare with an excellent disposition.

Services

Silver Oak Farm is a full service training and boarding facility. We offer personalized care for your horse in a peaceful, safe, horse friendly setting. The barn is well ventilated, has automatic waterers and large 12x12 stalls. Private paddocks and large turnout pastures are available. Horses are on turnout an average of 12 to 14 hours per day. The fencing is safe and well maintained. We feed three times a day and stalls are cleaned twice a day. At this time we do not offer pasture board. There is a large shaded dressage ring with mirrors, a full sided round pen, and a show jumping area. The footing in the dressage ring and round pen is regularly graded and the showjumping area is grass.

Lessons are offered on or off the farm. Correct basics are emphasised as the foundation to make riding safe and enjoyable. Lessons are primarily given on student's own horses but occasionally horses on the farm are available. Private lessons are $50 per session at the farm and $60 off the farm. Patricia is an ICP Certified Instructor for the United States Eventing Association and also available for clinics. Please contact us for more information on scheduling a clinic in your area.

Training is also offered here at the farm, from the initial breaking to finishing a horse for competition. A combination of roundpen work, natural horsemanship, in-hand work and classical dressage combine to produce horses that are calm and happy. When developing a horse's jumping and cross country skills, it is important to educate them by systematic and calm introduction to all the different questions they will face in competition. We feel horses learn much from their mistakes and it is best to allow them this education while the obstacles and consequences are small.

Boarding at Silver Oak is available. We feed our own custom mixed feed. We provide free blanketing and feeding of supplements. Horses are turned out either privately or in small groups. Pastures are not overgrazed. Basic stall board is $500 per month and basic board and training is $975 per month.

Jean Cibula was a student in the 90s, moved away to Kentucky and Ohio for 10 years, and is now back. She and Cadillac Jack competed through Preliminary level and completed Mayfest T3D 2004 on their dressage score.	Martha Deasy Little was Area III Senior Training Level Champion 3 times on 3 different horses. With Figaro II she went on to be USEA National and Area III Preliminary Champion.
Melissa Glantz and Trinity were National and Area III Training Level Champions in 2003. The following year they successfully moved up to Preliminary Level. They completed the Training 3-Day Event at Mayfest.	. Beth Steidl Stelzleni and Handsome Slew were Area III Junior Novice Champions in 2000 and Area III Training Level Champions in 2001.

Misty Morning Hounds

In 2007, I was asked to be the instructor at Perry Plantation, the home of Alexis and Mac Macauley's Misty Morning Hounds. Working with the students there has been fun and rewarding and I have throughly enjoyed it. Located in Micanopy Florida, the Perry Plantation is one of the nicest facilities in North Central Florida with a huge area for hacking, two dressage rings, a showjumping area and a large and varied cross country course.

I have been riding since I was a child and have experimented with many different disciplines. For twelve years during my twenties and early thirties I danced professionally after training while a student at FSU. During this time, I was Assistant Artistic Director of Tallahassee Civic Ballet, performing principal roles and teaching junior members of the company. After graduating from FSU in 1980, I joined Southern Ballet Theatre in Orlando, Florida as a member of their professional company. While there I performed principal and soloist roles and taught ballet and repertory classes in their adjacent school. From 1982 until 1988, I was a member of Tampa Ballet, also in the professional company and again performing principal and soloist roles. While in Tampa, I taught ballet, organized the touring schedule, staged repertory, and was Assistant Executive Director of Tampa Ballet. In 1985, I choreographed "Romeo and Juliet" for St. Petersburg Opera. In 1988, I began riding again and joined my sister, Martha Deasy-Little, competing in Combined Training, Eventing, and Dressage. From 1989 to 1990 I was the manager of Steve Wilson's Heaven Trees Farm, a polo facility, in Mandarin south of Jacksonville. I moved to the Gainesville area to start my own farm in August of 1990.

Facility

Silver Oak Farm is located on 16 acres in North Central Florida and is convenient to Gainesville and UF. The property has excellent, well drained footing. Pastures are of Bahia grass and are regularly mowed and well maintained. The turnout areas are fenced with no climb wire mesh with a top board. The dressage ring has large mirrors and is in a shaded location, a real bonus in hot weather. The barn has well ventilated 12x12 stalls and all have automatic waterers. There is a full sided round pen also in the shade. Show jumps are located in one of the larger grass pastures.
